TEACHING LISTENING AND CHECKING COMPREHENSION

Abstract
This article challenges the exclusion of authentic listening materials at early stages of language learning, arguing they are essential for developing communicative competence. It examines bottom-up difficulties such as word segmentation and highlights instructional strategies using prosodic cues. It also emphasizes top-down metacognitive approaches and active listening practices, including prediction, note-taking, and exposure to diverse real-world audio materials.
