POLITICAL VIOLENCE AND THE ORIGINS OF GLOBAL CONFLICT: AN ANALYTICAL STUDY OF THE ASSASSINATION OF ARCHDUKE FRANZ FERDINAND
Main Article Content
Abstract
Political assassinations have historically played a significant role in shaping international relations, triggering political crises, and transforming global power structures. One of the most consequential assassinations in modern history was the killing of Archduke Franz Ferdinand of Austria-Hungary in Sarajevo on June 28, 1914. This event is widely recognized as the immediate catalyst for the outbreak of the First World War. However, beyond its immediate political consequences, the assassination also represents a complex intersection of nationalism, intelligence failures, ideological extremism, and geopolitical tensions. This article examines the assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand through a multidisciplinary analytical framework that integrates political history, security studies, and the sociology of political violence. The research investigates the ideological motivations of the perpetrators, the organizational structures behind the attack, and the intelligence and security failures that allowed the assassination to occur. By analyzing historical documents, scholarly interpretations, and political contexts of early twentieth-century Europe, the study aims to provide a comprehensive understanding of how political violence can influence international stability. The findings demonstrate that the assassination was not merely an isolated act of terrorism but rather a manifestation of deeper structural conflicts within Europe, including nationalist movements, imperial rivalries, and fragile diplomatic alliances. Understanding the dynamics behind this historical event contributes to broader discussions on terrorism, political violence, and international security in both historical and contemporary contexts.
