TRANSFORMATION OF WOMEN'S KHAN ATLAS: FROM TRADITION TO THE MODERN RUNWAY
Main Article Content
Abstract
This article is devoted to the historical, cultural, and artistic analysis of the transformation of women's Khan atlas — a unique Uzbek textile — from its traditional significance in folk clothing to its contemporary interpretation on the international fashion runway. Special attention is paid to the aesthetic, social, and technological aspects of the Khan atlas transformation: from its role in everyday and festive attire to the innovative design practices of the 21st century. The study explores the interconnections between material culture and gender roles, the processes of preserving authenticity while adapting to modern fashion trends, as well as the impact of globalization on traditional textiles. A critical analysis of examples of Uzbek designers’ works, the use of Khan atlas in contemporary fashion, and its significance for cultural identity is provided.
