THE ROLE OF UNCERTAINTY AVOIDANCE IN INTERCULTURAL COMMUNICATION
Main Article Content
Abstract
In the context of globalization and multicultural interaction, understanding how different cultures perceive and manage uncertainty is essential for effective intercultural communication. This article explores the concept of uncertainty avoidance, a dimension of Geert Hofstede’s cultural framework, and examines its profound impact on communication styles, leadership expectations, conflict resolution, and decision-making across cultures. By comparing high and low uncertainty avoidance cultures, the article highlights common sources of misunderstanding and offers practical strategies for bridging cultural gaps. The analysis emphasizes that awareness and adaptation to varying levels of uncertainty tolerance can enhance communication effectiveness in international business, education, healthcare, and beyond.
