Abstract

This article explores the integration of sociolinguistic principles into language education to address linguistic challenges and foster communicative competence. It underscores the importance of understanding language use within its social context, emphasizing that effective communication transcends grammatical accuracy to include appropriateness, cultural sensitivity, and strategic interaction.


The article outlines the four components of communicative competence: grammatical, sociolinguistic, discourse, and strategic. It highlights how sociolinguistic competence enables learners to navigate various social contexts, adjusting their language use to align with cultural norms and expectations. In multilingual and multicultural settings, such as Uzbekistan, this competence is crucial for effective communication.


Practical strategies for developing sociolinguistic competence are discussed, including role-playing, discourse analysis, and cultural immersion. These methods provide learners with opportunities to practice and internalize appropriate language use in diverse social situations.
