Abstract

This article examines the significance of integrating authentic materials into the curriculum of philology programs to enhance students' communicative competence. Communicative competence encompasses not only grammatical knowledge but also the ability to use language effectively and appropriately in various contexts taking into consideration sociolinguistic factors as well. The study emphasizes that authentic materials—resources created for native speakers rather than language learners—provide real-life language exposure, bridging the gap between classroom instruction and real-world communication.

The article explores various facets of communicative competence, including linguistic, sociolinguistic, discourse, and strategic competencies, and discusses how authentic materials can foster these areas. By engaging with authentic texts, students gain insights into cultural nuances, idiomatic expressions, and contextual language use, thereby improving their overall language proficiency. The study also highlights the role of authentic materials in promoting intercultural awareness and motivation among learners.
