Abstract

Gamification, the application of game elements in educational contexts, has been increasingly adopted in schools to enhance student engagement and promote effective learning. The use of gamification in teaching vocabulary, particularly in secondary education, holds promise for making language learning more interactive and enjoyable. However, its implementation is not without challenges. This paper explores the main obstacles that educators face when using gamification for vocabulary instruction, such as issues with student motivation, technological barriers, curriculum alignment, and classroom management. Drawing on existing research, the paper discusses the implications of these challenges and offers practical strategies for overcoming them. The study concludes by highlighting the need for further research into gamification’s effectiveness in vocabulary learning and its potential to transform traditional educational practices.
