Abstract
The TIMSS survey provides important information about what students know and can do in mathematics and science as countries strive to prepare young people for a world in which mathematics and science play an increasingly important role in solving global problems. TIMSS items are divided into content and cognitive domains. The content domain of TIMSS focuses on content, while the cognitive domain focuses on knowledge, application, and reasoning, and the items are designed around this.
