CHEMICAL AND PHYSICAL METHODS OF DISINFECTION IN MODERN ENDODONTIC TREATMENT

Abstract
Scientific research in the field of clinical endodontics is limited by the complexity and often insufficient effectiveness of the treatment of dental patients with diseases of pulp and apical periodontitis. The study of microbial biofilms and methods of combating them in dentistry, especially endodontics, are not adequately represented in the dental literature. Treatment of caries complications (pulpitis and periodontitis) is one of the most difficult and high-tech challenges of modern dentistry. Primary endodontic treatment often fails, as a result of which retreatment of root canals is an important part of both general and specialized dental practice. A review of available literature sources showed that the level of success of endodontic outcomes in Europe and North America (1990–2002) dropped from 87% to 50%. In Scandinavian countries, the percentage of endodontically treated teeth with endodontic periodontitis is 25–35%. According to S.P. Sulkovskaya (RB, 2004), the prevalence of caries complications in the examined group (3180 adults from various regions of the Republic of Belarus) was 92.55 ± 1.1%, the need for endodontic treatment was 6.19 teeth per person, 2.7 teeth required primary endodontic treatment and 3.5 teeth required repeat treatment.
